Trip Leaders

Hello, my name is Deborra Stewart-Pettengill. My students call me Ms. S-P, and my friends call me Deb. I was born in South Carolina, which is in the southeastern United States. I have lived in a number of eastern states and also in California and Japan. I moved from California to New England in 1985, and have lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with my husband and 2 children since that time. I am an artist and art teacher, and have taught visual art at Bement since 1995.  My personal artwork can be viewed on my website at deborrastewartpettengill.com. My appreciation for Asian art began many years ago when I lived in Japan. Since that time I have incorporated the study of Asian art into my art classes at every available opportunity.  My anticipation grows each day, as we plan for our visit to China. There will be so much to share with my students next year!

Ni Hao! I am Xiaomo Hong. My students call me “Hong Lao Shi” (teacher Hong), my friends call me “Xiaomo” (which means “a little ink”), and my families call me “Momo” :-) . I was born and raised in an art and teachers family in Beijing China. I love painting as well as teaching. They are both my great passion! I started the Chinese language program at the Bement School in 2007. I enjoy sharing my Chinese cultural and art background with my American and international students. I had a dream that I would bring Bement students and faculty members to China in the near future. This dream will come true this summer. I can’t wait to show my beloved home country to my colleague and students!

My name is Emily Lent, or Ms. Lent to my students. I teach third grade and live in a dorm at Bement School in Deerfield, Massachusetts. I love to read, write, run, cook…and eat! I have lived for most of my life on the East Coast of the USA in New York and Massachusetts, but I was lucky enough to live in Scotland for one year. I love to travel anywhere and everywhere, but I have never been to Asia before.  I am so excited to visit China for the first time!

Hi, I’m Cynthia , I’m the tour guide for The Bement School’s Summer Trip in Beijing and altogether with the kids to Xi’an. Bement students are very nice and lovely. We had a great trip!
